creative cake stands {part one}

I mentioned in yesterday’s blog post that I was doing some work with Party On! involving some crafting with party supplies.  I am happy to share my first creation!

stand-1-title

Let’s walk through this (very) easy process, starting with supplies:

You need a mason jar lid (not the rim with the disk lid, but a solid lid) and a wooden candle stick.  And some ribbon.

Paint the candle stick.  Easy enough so far?

ribbon-gather

Run a straight stitch through the center of your ribbon to gather.

The next part (pictured above) is the tiniest bit tricky…You want to glue one end of the ribbon to the lid, wrap the ribbon around, and carefully glue the other end of the ribbon to the lid being sure not to glue the thread.  Carefully.  You want to be able to pull the thread to adjust your gathers around the lid.  And if you glue the thread, no big deal.  You would just go around and glue the gathers to the lid.  Embellish with some fanciness if you so choose.

bottom

Glue the candlestick in the center of the bottom of the lid.

Flip it over and you have a little mini cupcake stand.  I am thinking place-card settings for a spring-inspired dinner party.  Super inexpensive, unique, and fun.  And re-useable.  I love re-useable!

On a side note, I took a free class on Skillshare called Make Awesomer Product Photos: Create Your Own Photoshoot”.  It was a quick class that gave me some good tips.  I can’t wait to check out more classes there!

Enjoy!
