mix it up {my fave green smoothie}



We (read: I) got one a couple of years ago for Christmas and immediately after fell in love with Green Smoothies.  There are lots of ways you can pack a full day’s worth of fruits and veggies into a smoothie for yourself.  This is just one way and my personal favorite.  It is essentially the way I make them every time, give or take a few additions/subtractions.  Moira and Ronan love them too…as long as I leave out the peppers.  Apparently peppers make the smoothies taste like burps (according to Moira).


Green Smoothie
makes 4 servings

1 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup green grapes
1/2 apple or pear, cored
1/4 cucumber, peeled and seeded
2-3 cups (packed) washed spinach or kale, stems removed
2-4 fresh broccoli florets.
1 small to medium carrot, peeled and cut into quarters
1/2 cup frozen peaches
1 fresh or frozen banana

*Some smoothie add-ins:  unsweetened dates, slivered almonds, cinnamon, golden raisins, oats, hemp, flax, or chia

**If you aren’t using frozen fruits and want a very cold smoothie, swap out some water for ice.  Otherwise, freeze your nanners and peaches.  That does the trick to make it nice and cold.

Put into the blender in the order listed.  Start at low, increase speed to high, then switch to the highest speed until all blended and smooth.  Serve immediately, or put in a blender bottle and refrigerate for later in the day.  Just give a good shake before drinking.
