christmas decorating with vintage finds

Almost every time I go to visit my mother in Central New York, we make our obligatory stop at this fabulous Antique Barn in her area. The place is filled with all sorts of findings and we spend hours looking at furniture and pawing through tchotchkes, dishes, clothing…stuff. I almost always walk out with something.

On our last visit there, I picked out a handful of items that I intended to use for a cute vintage Christmas vignette. When mixed in with some items I already had (from that Antique Barn), I was able to get something a little bit vintage, a little bit a simple, and a lot of merry.

The “merry” blocks, the adorable brass deer set, the record, and the books all came from that day.  The bowl was acquired on a different trip from that same shop.

I don’t typically do all-vintage, but once I saw these great items I decided to just go with it.  I was so excited to try out something a little out of my ‘zone’ and am happy with the results!Signature

feather home decor roundup

Decorating with feathers has become one of my favorite ways to add little accents in trendy home decor.  There are lots of ways just a few little (or large) feathers can go a long way to making a stylish statement.

thanksgiving front door

I was in a big hurry to get my Thanksgiving ‘wreath’ on my front door yesterday, after all the Halloween festivities were done.  I am really loving this one!  In true Anne fashion, I could not resist some sparkle either.

Still sticking with a look that is a little bit simple, a little bit fancy.

A couple of tips for working with feathers that I learned.  First off, I wanted curly feathers, so I checked out this tutorial on You Tube on curling feathers.  Once curled, I used mod podge to stick my feathers, slathering it on the canvas pretty thick just where the feathers would be.  I gently pressed them on with either my fingers or a toothpick and that was it.  I did try to put mod podge on top and ended up with a sort of Charlie Brown’s Christmas Tree-looking feather.  Not really what I was going for.

Now I am hoping the crazy wind doesn’t blow it right off the door!  Happy November!
